Casa Las Diñadas
This traditional stone building is about 12 metres high with an almost square floor plan (10 metres by 12 metres), with stone walls one metre thick which complement the typical wooden structure of the period. Its distribution is across three floors (and a storage basement) with a total of 345 square metres (3,700 sq ft), 115 square metres (1,235 sq ft) per floor. The property is enhanced by an enclosed garden of about 1,500 square metres (16,150 sq ft), with a tall covered porch of 16 square metres, and full barbecue area. It also has a meadow and mountain land of more than 9,000 square metres (96,875 sq ft) which is perfectly delimited. Part of the garden and meadow has been terraced in various places to create a variety of distinct places.
The main entrance floor begins with the spacious hall and generous staircase, off which is the separate dining room and kitchen. The hall gives to the living room with two well differentiated spaces and the full width viewing gallery of the main façade. The first floor has 3 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms. The master bedroom has an area of 40 square metres and is en-suite. The entire front of the bedroom is the second level of the full width viewing gallery. The second floor has 2 bedrooms, both en-suite, as well as a living room or office, and a storeroom.
Don Benigno Arango Menéndez chose well when he built this emblematic house in 1900: on top of the hill overlooking the valley, facing East to warm up with the first rays of sunshine each day and with stunning, layered views above the picturesque village of Selgas de Abajo, a typically Asturian village of about 30 houses.
Completely refurbished in 2009, the current owners carefully preserved the characteristic elements of the past whilst integrating a modern layout, and an elegant and sophisticated interior design. The architecture from the beginning of the last century has been fully maintained. The gallery of the main façade gives us spectacular views, … here every sunrise is special, some days by the mist that rises from the valley and others by its clear and infinite views…
